Pedro Fernandes da Costa

Pedro is in his third season coaching for Prime Time Volleyball Club at the high school level. During the 2017-2018 High School club season, he was the head coach for 18 Orange. Last year Pedro coached 17 White (32-18) and led a combined roster of 17 White and 18 Orange at AAU’s, which finished 21st among 79 teams in the competition (7-3).

Before Prime Time, Pedro coached two women collegiate volleyball clubs in Brazil for five consecutive years (95-99) at UNESP/Botucatu(SP). Pedro was also the 8th Grade head coach at the Holy Cross School in Champaign IL for the 2006-2007 season.

Pedro has a unique background. As a Portuguese citizen born in Angola, he grew up in Brasil and started playing indoor volleyball at 13 in Middle School in the city of Campinas. In high school, Pedro played as an OH for the club Fonte São Paulo (16U-17U), one of the most prestigious clubs in the State of São Paulo that revealed among others, Mauricio Lima, a two-time Olympic gold medalist. Pedro played through College for five years winning three national tournaments with his men's club team in 96, 97, and 2000. In 1996 and 1997, Pedro also played in the São Paulo State Adult Mens Volleyball Division 1, representing the club Associação Atlética Botucatuense. Alongside experienced players from the Brazilian National League (Superliga), his team was a runner up in the São Paulo State tournament and placed fourth overall in the season. Pedro also played competitive beach volleyball during his years in College and still enjoys playing as much as possible.

Pedro has a degree in Agronomy from Brazil at UNESP/Butucatu (SP), an MS in Agricultural Economics from the University of Kentucky, and an MBA from UIUC. Pedro currently works in College of ACES at the UIUC as the Associate Director of Corporate Engagement.
